@Classof2015 - No, I didn’t see her split times. She did mention that she thinks some of the mile markers in the middle of the run were mismarked and actually were more than a mile apart. She started thinking she would not make her goal time and slowed to a walk for a bit. In hindsight that was ok.
I had a work meeting 3 hours away today so a very long day with no time to get out and enjoy the beautiful day.
hey all just checking in after a few years away! Glad to see that most of you are still working the exercise. I’m very active (even through a few injuries) and was wondering where is Idad? He was very inspiring. Can someone PM me? thanks a lot .
Bunsen, when you were marathon training, did you follow the MarathonRookie schedule precisely? I seem to recall you were doing strength training too - did you do that on your “rest days” or combine it with running days?
I pretty much stuck to that PDF sheet. Had it taped on the kitchen wall and crossed off the days. I did not do any organized strength training during my off days - just body weights core stuff and free weights. Me thinks if you do your Pilates etc. in the off-running time, you will benefit from that even more than I did from my routine.
The Big Dark has moved in, and the rain was so bad last night that I longed for my exercise room. I can’t find the parts to assemble my treadmill. Mr. is out of town and is not helpful in remembering. Bummer. I have to wait for him to get back home.
How great that you will have an exercise room! Eventually!
BTW Bunsen, I am eating the concoction you mentioned for lunch today at work - the Tasty Madras Lentils topping the brown rice/quinoa mix!! It’s really pretty good for lunch in a pinch!
I love those Tasty Bite packets - quick and tasty! A real deal if you can get them at your Costco.
Bunsen, are you sure Mr. B hasn’t hidden the treadmill parts away somewhere? I still haven’t persuaded Mr. Sabaray that we need a treadmill. I mentioned the word “marathon” and he mentioned the word “divorce” (okay, not really, but you get the general idea). He’s been doing really well with weight loss - I think he’s down almost 30 pounds. I’m glad he’s taking more of an interest in his health.
The exercise room is ready to go! All we have to do is assemble the dang machines. I think we will move the extra Pax wardrobes in there to hold the exercise-related junk like rubber bands etc. They have mirror doors, so no need for a wall mirror. Yay!! Now, I will have to fight with Mr. about the TRX. He does not think it is safe to attach it to this flimsy house, so he will be “building reinforcements.”
sabaray- I would think you AND your husband would like having a treadmill. It provides a lot of flexibility, especially in the winter. Congratulations to him on the weight loss!
Ah, the spouse factor. My husband is pretty good, pretty supportive, but his support varies depending on the sport. He prefers the sports he can beat me at.
(True, but we do find many things we can do together and I am fortunate.)
Sabaray, Mr. B realized that the treadmill allows him to have more time with me during those dark, icky winter nights. Plus, I am known to hop off the belt to check on the stuff I put in the oven before starting my short runs… so a treadmill is a multi-tasking enhancement device! When I am done, we are ready to eat.
I think Mr. Sabaray is fearful of another episode requiring medical intervention, which I understand. I’m a little apprehensive about that aspect as well, but I feel much better conditioned at this point in time. We’ll see. Nothing is set in stone yet. Our schedules are so different that it’s rare we have dinner together, although that will hopefully be changing soon. He wants to keep our gym membership (which includes a sauna, hot tub and steam room), I want to cancel that for a treadmill.
Thanks! I have been busy dancing, swimming, weights, walking…whatever I can do. I find i have some chronic injuries after a lifetime of being VERY active - shoulders get sore, can’t jump too much or run, but I do the best I can. Weight is down after getting used to eating small meals often. Love to hear your reports! I have also dealt with a few weird injuries (broken patella - took a very bad fall) , but am recovered fully. I find you really have to use it or lose it; I see so many my age (60) who have basically just given up, and are content to get out of shape.
Yesterday and today were absolutely gorgeous and I did not get outside either day due to busyness at work. I did go to sunrise yoga this morning and will be on the treadmill in a little bit. It’s boring but an option for times when it is too dark/wet/cold/icy etc for outside running.
Congrats to Mr Sabaray! That is terrific. Wish I could get Mr Fall to do the same…
I marvel at those of you who manage to just keep plugging away at this. I find it hard to keep momentum going for long. I’ve had some big awful events happen this year, and all I want to do is curl into a little ball and go to sleep with my extra time. The last thing I want to do is exercise. While I know intellectually that would probably be the very best thing to do, it’s a struggle. I’m thinking that maybe the way to go is get so addicted to exercise, so much in the habit (when things are going well), that when life events happen that you don’t even consider giving it up.
