Diff. between weight & unweighted

Seems to me that allot of the spreads people are reporting are way too large. I understand that colleges recalculate gpa’s but these people are talking about their H.S. weighted/unweighted gpa’s. And they show too much of a spread in my thinking. It seems unless you’ve taken many, many honors/AP courses; it just doesn’t make sense. I’m not saying I don’t believe anybody, I’m saying I don’t understand the reason for the wide differences.

I think the wide differences are accounted for in how many classes the student takes. For example, in my school, we’re required to take 7 classes per semester. But, our school doesn’t offer as many APs, so in those few APs we take, the grades are A’s and some B’s. But because the other 4 or 5 other classes we take are not AP, the weightage doesn’t seem much if we end up getting B’s in those 2 or 3 APs.

I’m not sure if I make sense, lol, but I hope that answers your question.
