Difference between parents' tax return and father's/mother's tax return?

<p>For my Emory app, it says that:</p>

<p>11-12 Father’s 2010 Tax Return: Completed<br>
11-12 Mother’s 2010 Tax Return: Completed
11-12 Parent 2010 Tax Returns: Initiated (means not complete)</p>

<p>My parents are separated.</p>

<p>Can someone explain?</p>
