A little random…this might be a better q for the Yale forum, but I have a brother there right now and I’m shopping for his 21st birthday. Are students at private schools more into the jerseys and mascots and whatnot? I go to a public school and could care less, but we also have a lame mascot (Yale is a bulldog, at least has a little edge). Any thoughts on the matter, or if it makes an acceptable gift?

When I toured Brown and Dartmouth I saw tons of people wearing clothing items that displayed the name of the school and the mascot, so I am sure that many of them at private schools have school spirit. Yale especially.

Yale has more college spirit than university spirit so go for something that represents his residential college.

That’s really good insight. My brother is also incidentally at Yale so I should bear that in mind. That having been said I think the best gifts are straight-forward, especially for a 21st birthday which is probably going to end in hard-partying. Last Christmas I shopped around on the Yale website but wound up shipping a few bottles of Bulldog gin instead – it’s squatty with a spiked dog collar around the top, and getting big around the campus which is unsurprising given the mascot. I think my bro liked it but he probably got too buzzed to call and thank me…

Thanks for the help…I didn’t know Yale had their own line of gin, that’s interesting

Yale doesn’t have its own line of gin. It’s manufactured in England and has been sold for the past 2 years.

ohhh…soz, that makes a little more sense
