Hey everyone, I am planning to apply SCEA to an Ivy League school, so that is the only private school I can apply early to. However, their policy is that I can also apply to state schools. Does that include all public schools? For example, can I also apply early to schools like:
University of Virginia
Georgia Tech
Purdue
UC Berkeley
Virginia Tech
Thanks for the help!
^ Yes. Something to consider is whether you can afford all those OOS schools. Some will run you >$50K/year.
state=public. There is generally much less FA available so cost may be more than private schools for you.
It depends. There is no such thing as Early Decision at Berkeley or other UCs. You have to submit your application in November for notification in late March. You should ask them for clarification. Many public universities offer rolling admissions, and students often apply in the early fall in order to qualify for priority consideration for scholarships and honors programs.
Most public colleges in the US are state ones, except for a few like the service academies and those in non state places like DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, etc…

Does SCEA prohibit students from applying to privates that have rolling admissions??? I didn’t think that was true.
I thought that SCEA just means that you can only apply to one school with EA/ED style admissions.
However, if there are privates that are accepting apps for rolling or RD admissions in the fall, it’s ok to apply to those as well.
I think you’re confusing RD and Rolling with EA and ED admissions.
Each school offering SCEA/REA has its own rules specifying what they expect SCEA/REA applicants to abide by with respect to early applications at other schools.
