Differences between courses and self-study

Why are courses better than just teaching yourself the material? I’ve pretty much always been able to learn anything that I choose on my own, just from books and the internet, and classes, at least so far, have all just been a waste of time. My AP bio class, for example, pretty much just consists of reading the textbook and listening to the teacher do power points on exactly the same thing. Obviously this is a bad course, but what do “good” ones offer that this one doesn’t? If you say the way the material is presented, then please explain. Isn’t it all the same information in the end?
