How important are small differences in rank? Like one to two spots seperated by a tenth of a point or so unweighted. I know that it is the consensus on this board that there are no quotas for a high school as far as how many can be admitted to a school, but they will be compared because they are in a similar environment.

So basically, if #2 and #3 with very close GPAs (out of large class; 500+) apply to the same place, will being #2 be a significant advantage or would other factors like testing, EC, and recs/essays be used to seperate the applicants?
