Different Book Editions

So Ctools says I need these two books:

General Chemistry w/OWL Access, Author: Ebbing/Gammon, Publisher: Houghton-Mifflin
9781285252209

Deborah Hughes-Hallett [and eighteen others] ; with the assistance of Otto K. Bretscher, David E. Sloane, ; coordinated by Elliot J. Marks. Sixth edit. Wiley. Paperback. 9780470888643
Calculus: Single Variable by Hughes-Hallett, Deborah, McCallum, William G., Gleason, Andr 6th (sixth) Edition

But instead can I buy the 8th edition of General Chemistry and the online code separately and the 5th edition of the Calculus book? Is there any difference between the editions? If anyone has experience with these classes, I would appreciate your input.

There is usually minimal difference between editions of books.

It varies from class to class as well as from professor to professor because they all teach things differently, so it really is best to e-mail them. It really depends on how much textbook use you’ll see and how much exams will be based on them.

Edit: I just saw one of the books you listed is calculus. I just about guarantee you need to get the 6th edition because homework and group work problems are different to some degree in each edition. Also, exams are based almost exclusively on the textbook’s contents, so it’s important to have the correct one.

Aww, the person selling it told me the problems were the same as the 6th edition, but maybe he’s just trying to get rid of it. I’d email a teacher but ctools still hasn’t posted who it is for calc.
