As we all know, Barron’s ACT is extremely challenging; some of its difficult questions are probably never going to show up on the real test. Does this mean practicing with Barron’s is not helpful? Is the time spent on its practice tests wasted? I hope not… Exactly how much does Barron’s help you? The September test date is fast approaching, therefore, I don’t want to waste my time by going over a test prep that’s not going to help me much.

I think it’s still helpful, but I think Barron’s tends to get students really worried that they aren’t going to do well. I got low 20’s on the Barron’s practice tests, but I got 30+ on the real ACT practice tests and PR practice tests. I got a 29 on the real things, but mainly because the Barron’s test got me so worried that I stayed up studying the night before and took the exam on 2 hours of sleep…not a good idea. If you are going to use Barron’s ACT, you should use it in conjunction with another book. For example, I think the Barron’s ACT and PR 1296 would go well together.

I would suggest going to barron’s only if you’re already scoring 32+ and want to boost yourself to a 34+

Do you think Barron’s this on purpose? Did they think creating difficult practice tests will help students do better on the real test?

Yeah, I think that’s what they’re trying to do. But whether it works or not depends on the student. Though, depending on what exam you are using Barron’s for, sometimes they give you a bunch of information you wouldn’t need to know. This isn’t the case with the Barron’s ACT though.
