–BUS-C 104 was taken so I had to take BUS-C 204.–

Nico, there are at least 15 C104 sections currently open with at least ten open seats each. Start times include 8 am; 9 am; 11:15 am; 1:00 pm; 2:30 pm; etc up until 8:30 pm. I think it would be a good move to start with the freshman class first. These sections may have just appeared, as the high demand Icore prerequisites like C104 often get added as earlier sections fill up. I think your schedule is much better without E201.

bthomp1,
Every BUS-C 104 class says “Above class reserved for Kelley Direct Admit and Kelley LLC students only”, I’ve tried to sign up for them but then an error displays. I would really love to take BUS-C 104 if I could…Could this be an error by the school?

They will no doubt add a bunch of sections later. It is way too early in the first year orientation process to not have any C104 sections left except for direct admits and LLC students. For now, you might sign up on the wait list for one of the sections that does not have anybody waiting. The Dawn New Section# 30981 has no students waiting yet and she is an easy grader. You could probably get in that section as somebody will probably drop. Or you can just keep checking every day for new sections to open up. If you go on the wait list for a section, click that you want to drop C204 if you are added from the wait list in order to get the whole transaction with just one fee.

EDIT: Actually, they had 40 sections of C104 last fall and already have 41 this year. Looks like they really overestimated the demand for Kelley LLC students that will be taking C104 this semester, so I would sign up for waitlist on a section with a small waitlist (like the Dawn New class and automatically dropping C106 if you get in) and check often for new sections or sections being opened to any students.

Also, you might check today to see if somebody drops. Maybe you can squeeze into one today before the next wave of freshmen start signing up again tomorrow or tuesday.

Your numbers are inaccurate. You have to include people who dropped out of M211. 32 of 86 (37%) got a solid B or higher with Demeter in Fall 2012.

Pretty much only the top Kelley finance students get math minors. Look at the IBW student resumes and see how many of them get the math minor. You are not even in Kelley yet. You are getting some bad advice for someone whose main goal is to get into Kelley. You can still get a math minor by taking M119 Calculus plus more class now, getting into Kelley, and then take M211. It is only one extra class doing it that way.

nstraub, bthomp is right. It makes little sense to risk your chances of getting into Kelley. Check out this thread from 2011 to see how another regular admit’s situation played out.

I don’t understand why advisers continue to provide such poor advice. Do NOT take M211 if you have not yet been admitted to Kelley. It is a totally unnecessary risk.

One thing I quickly learned at NSO, take advice from advisers with a grain of salt. I gained way more insight reading these boards than the thirty minutes I spent in that office.

Coste…I could not agree more. I really want to thank all the informed people who take the time to post on CC. It has made my transition from California to IU so much easier. I think the advisers try to do their best but they are pushed for time and they really dont know what type a student a person really is. Test scores and GPA dont always provide an accurate picture of a person’s strengths and weaknesses.

Yes, information here has been so valuable.

The advisers are doing their job. They have thousands of freshmen coming in this summer, so it’s understandable. I didn’t follow the mock schedule we created together. Instead, I got on the phone within the hour after our meeting and called all the local colleges so I could sign up for summer courses.

Just came back from the orientation, and son registererd for the following courses, which I need your comments. Keep in mind that, all the purposes are to get into Kelly in Sophomore. Thank you very much in advance.

Geol-G 141: Earthquakes and Volcanoes
Ealc- C 101: ELEMENTARY CHINESE
Math-M119: Brief Survey of Calculus I
BUS-K201:The Computer in Business
BUS-C104:Business Presentations

took 24 credits at CC for 2012-2013
-Transferring to IU Bloomington for the 2013 fall semester and Planning to apply this fall for a January admission

I-Core prerequisites that I’ve completed but do not count for my application to kelley:
ECON-E202, BUS-A 201, ENG-W 131

This means I’m a standard applicant that must take 4 I-core prerequisites.

My Current Schedule is: MATH-M 118 (3cr)
EDUC-X 101 (2cr) (Supplemental class for MATH-M 118)
BUS-K 201 (3cr)
BUS-C 104 (3cr)
This leaves me with one more I-core prerequisite class to complete my application:
My only options are: ECON-E 201
BUS-C 204 (Which I’m currently enrolled in)

I’ve emailed the business school asking if I can take both BUS-A 100 and BUS-T 175 to replace my fourth additional course to apply.

I’ve also considered taking two semesters to fulfill the application.

If anyone can give me advice and suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
