Difficulty of B-School classes

Hey-

It’s clear that the quality of students in the B-School is superior to that of the general UNC student body. However, I was wondering how this impacts the difficulty of the B-School. Are teachers more willing to give As, or is the B-School simply more difficult than the rest of the school.

By B-School, I’m referring to BUSI classes numbered above 400.

Thanks in advance.

I’m sorry, I’m not answering your question at all, as I’m entirely unqualified to do so. However, I do have a question. (By the way, I’m assuming those “BUSI classes numbered above 400” are those offered to the Kenan-Flager undergraduate BA program members–apologies if I’m mistaken).

“It’s clear that the quality of students in the B-School is superior to that of the general UNC student body.”

What makes you say that? According to Kyle H. Brazile, “approximately 70% of the students who apply are admitted into [Kenan-Flagler B-School].” Looking at that, I’d say that B-School admittance reflects more on students’ interests rather than on their academic competence.

Again, sorry for not answering your question. I just thought your inquiry seemed a tad bit elitist.

Well, the most compelling evidence for my assertion is that the average GPA of those admitted to the Business program is a 3.5, whereas the average GPA of all students at UNC is a 3.11. From this, I concluded that the students in the Business program were, on average, better than the average non-business student.

The fact that 30% of those who were interested were rejected suggests that it is a reflection of their academic competence.

But you are correct in that self-selection may have played a role in that GPA.

Science and math majors tend to have lower overall GPAs because of the difficulty of the courses and the fact that most classes in the sciences are graded on very strict curves.

Be careful not to generalize.

You really can’t judge someone by their GPA…I think the average for a Biology major is a 2.9 or something. That doesn’t mean an English major with a 4.0 is smarter than him/her.

Well, everyone has their differing views on how well GPA/SAT/LSAT/MCAT reflects actual intelligence, but this is definitely not a question about that.

Has anyone know if the average B-School class is easier, harder, or the same difficulty as the average arts & sciences course?

It is generally harder to get into the B-School than it is to complete the coursework. Not to say that the classes are a joke but if you can get into the B-School they should be no problem. Plus you get no friday classes. In my opinion thats effin awesome.
