Difficulty of Math SAT?

I looked at the first practice question and it was about probability. I am in eight grade going into freshmen year and I could answer it. The thing is, it says the difficulty is hard.
A special lottery is to be held to select the student who will live in the only deluxe room in a dormitory. There are 100 seniors, 150 juniors, and 200 sophomores who applied. Each senior’s name is placed in the lottery 3 times; each junior’s name, 2 times; and each sophomore’s name, 1 time. What is the probability that a senior’s name will be chosen?
(A) 1 over 8
(B) 2 over 9
(C) 2 over 7
(D) 3 over 8
(E) 1 over 2
This can’t be considered hard, can it? Just trying to jump start lol.

SAT Math doesn’t get too hard. You may find questions when you take the test slightly difficult, but most problems don’t require too much work to solve. Knowledge past Algebra II also isn’t required. Trying out problems in the Blue Book will give you a general feel for how difficult the section can be.

It’s not that hard, but it requires you to read the question carefully and not make silly mistakes such as answering 100/(100+150+200) = 2/9. No SAT math question should require over a minute’s worth of work.

^that varies by person and the difficulty of the question. But yeah, generally that’s correct.

SAT math isn’t hard at all. The only somewhat difficult part is interpreting the question. SAT math is more about logic than actual math. If you want to be tested on actual math, then that’s what the ACT is for.

I love the ACT. It hurts my brain less than any SAT 18 question section.

My bad I meant to say ACT Math specifically. I can’t stand the ACT as a whole.

Oh… Thanks! I just took the practice test on the college board website… The first thing was to write the essay. I speant all the time on that down to the second. For the rest, I got bored after one of the first sections on math and randomly answered the rest by barely reading xD. I ended up with a 12 on the Essay which bumped up my writing score, but since I guessed randomly (pretty much) on the rest, these were my scores :stuck_out_tongue:
Reading: 400
Writing: 590
Math: 410
Considering that;s a 1400, and the national average is around 1500, it shouldn’t be too hard actually trying to get higher.

SAT math is more about reading/interpreting the question correctly, I guess. I almost missed a math problem once due to a tricky wording that made the answer E) It cannot be determined from the information given (which is rarely correct; I had never seen that as a correct answer before).

Thanks guys! With all of this being said, it seems that if I prepare adequately, I can ace the math SAT when the time comes. I love math a lot! In my school district in which I just moved to, they don’t even have accelerated math classes. Good thing I’m the exception putting me two years ahead
