I know that the teacher can greatly impact how difficult a class is, but I did want to have an idea of what APs were considered more difficult than others. I am taking 6 this year, but from what I have heard they are not the harder ones out of the rest. The full list is:
AP Calculus AB
AP Language Arts and Composition
AP Microeconomics + AP Macroeconomics
AP Seminar
AP Studio Art 2-D
If you can, it would be awesome if you all leave tips for how to approach these classes, as they would really help. Thanks!
In my opinion, from least hard to most hard
AP Studio Art 2-D
AP Lang
AP Micro/Macro
AP Seminar
AP Calc
AP Studio Art might be difficult if you haven’t taken a year or two of art, but I doubt that you haven’t if you’re taking AP. AP Economics aren’t really too hard. I know AP Seminar isn’t a light course and it’s writing and research heavy. If you aren’t interested in this AP or aren’t going into journalism, I suggest you drop it. I recommend you read the AP Seminar and AP Research Course Overview PDFs from CB to get more of an idea of what is expected of you and the coursework.
The only one view taken out of this list is calc. I took it last year as a sophomore and it definitely wasn’t easy. I was able to pull low A’s in the class and I ended up getting a 5 on the exam. The only way to do well in this class is to practice and practice and practice. My teacher was brutal when it came to homework and I think that’s why I ended up doing well on the exam. If your teacher isn’t as rigorous (or in my case just plain mean) then I would recommend doing extra practice and getting help from websites like Khan Academy. This class might be a pain but it definitely is rewarding.
AP Lang is rather subjective in terms of difficulty. I happen to do a lot better at writing/debate which led me to get a five on the exam. If you hate English and/or dislike writing, it most likely won’t be worth it. However, I found out that by taking AP Lang (5) and AP Seminar (3) , that they sort of weaved together in terms of both being writing and research heavy. Honestly, I found AP seminar more difficult in terms of the exam being divided into three parts, and Lang was a piece of cake for me. Only do those two courses if you are either good at English and writing mechanics, or are open to learn about it.
