Hi,
This question is for current students: I’m looking to do the Paterno Fellows Program and I will be taking CAS 137H and an honors history course. I saw that the requirement for someone who will be doing a poli sci/ International politics major is a 3.7 + GPA. I know it’s difficult to maintain an A- through college, but in your experience, how difficult was it for you your freshman year? I know the program is also a gateway into the SHC and I was offered scholarship money if I could do it. What do you think?
Where on earth did you get the 3.7gpa requirement?
That likely mistake aside, a 3.7 requires a lot of study, discipline and organization. People often think that Penn State’s party reputation means the classes are all easy, and that is decidedly not the case. The Paterno Fellows program is excellent and I don’t think anyone should pass up the opportunity if they are focused on a competitive career and/or are already an excellent student.
I’m on the same boat as you, doing paterno fellows and I’m an international politcs major. And the 3.7 gpa thing is not a mistake, that’s the requirement for poli sci/international politics. I’m taking CAS 137H as well and honors women studies, and I’m also worried about the work load. If anyone else has some imput on the work load and how to handle it, or just information on those honors classes in general, I would really appreciate it!
CAS 137H and its required successor, CAS 138T, are not hard. I pulled A’s in both, with a 95.some and 94.some, respectively. Put in the work and you will do fine! The only stressful thing about it was that there were only 100 points total for each class, so doing well on each assignment is important. When losing one point means losing one percent overall, that can be a bit of pressure.
