Difficulty?

Exactly how difficult is it to get in? Can an average student (b’s and c’s) have a chance?

Not too difficult if you’re an at least somewhat interesting person

Yes

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using CC App

Thank you, I also do take some AP coarses and do sports

UMass’s acceptance rate is around 65%, so it isn’t all that tough.

It is getting harder though, as the economy and the desire for a better value are leading more high-stat kids to apply.

So if I do well on my SATs I should I have a decent shot?

Definitely.

Okay thank you. Do you know about what I need to get on the SATs?

UMass uses only the math and critical reading parts, the 75th percentile score is around 1260. If you get above that, your chances are probably good.

If you don’t make the cutoff on your UW GPA, and SAT score, they do not look further. This cutoff changes every year, and seems to be on the rise. I was told in 2009 that for in-state they were looking for AT LEAST a 3.2 UW GPA and AT LEAST an 1160 on the SAT, CR and M. Most ppl I know were considerably higher than that. This year, it seems the cutoff is higher judging by my friends who were deferred or rejected.

one more thing…just call admissions, and they will tell you what the cutoffs are this year.

This isn’t exactly how it works.

If your GPA is below the “cutoff”, then there a is minimum test score your must achieve. The lower the GPA, the higher the test score needed. If your GPA is above the “cutoff”, then there is no minimum test score. If your GPA is below 2.0, you will not be accepted. As far as I know the “cutoff” is still 3.0, keep in mind meeting the minimums does not guarantee acceptance, and there are exceptions.

Here is a summary to the GPA/test score trade-off:

Try as hard you can to get rid of “C” in your transcript and with average SAT, I’m pretty sure that you will get in, more chance if you are in state

The cut-off GPA for UMASS schools is “weighted.”
