Hello, I am an upcoming freshman to a community college and want to know if my schedule is to much to handle. First I found AP Calc BC to be straightforward so i don’t know if Math 1C will be easy or hard.
The fall clases I’m planning to take:
Math 1C (4 units)
Physics 4A (4 units)
Che-3 (4 units)
English 1A honors (4 Units)
Sociology 1 honors (3 Units)
As for teachers, I’ve done research and seen that all the teachers make these classes fun and interesting. Ik that teachers play a role in difficulty so as far as I’m concerned these teachers are great.
How many hours a week am i planning to study? Should I drop a class? Is physics 4A easier if I already know calculus?
It sounds like a heavy load but not impossible. Will you be working or involved in sports or anything else outside of classes? One option would be to attend all 5 for the first week and drop whichever is the least interesting.
Thank you for replying!!! I won’t be working at all so I think I can manage but i will drop whichever i find least interesting. Thank you !!
Do any of those courses require labs?
I often found that my English courses required the most time spent on reading and writing.
Only physics and chemistry requires labs for me.
In your BC class did they spend a few weeks on Multivariate Calculus? I ask that because some teachers sometimes skimp on that part in order to prep the class for the BC exam. If the class covered the beginnings of MV, you should be good with 1C.
Are there discussion sections with the non-lab classes? It sounds like a pretty heavy load.
It would really help if you named the community college, since others are presumably guessing as to what the course numbers mean.
Most of the course numbers look like they are from De Anza or Foothill (which are quarter system schools), although they do not have a “CHEM 3” course.
Assuming De Anza or Foothill, Calculus BC should be sufficient prerequisite for MATH 1C (third quarter calculus, infinite series and introduction to multivariable calculus). However, you need to check your target four year schools if your AP score is sufficient to exempt you from De Anza MATH 1A and 1B, if these are required for your major.
In my calc bc class we didn’t learn multi variable but he took my work ethic into consideration and said I’ll get through it with little difficulty.
Che-3 is an intro to chemistry since i never took AP chem at my high school (wasn’t offered) and the community college I’m going to is Riverside Community College. I don’t know about class discussions since school starts in August 27.
Thank you all for replying!!!
https://www.rcc.edu/departments/mathsciencedepartment/mathematics/Pages/Current-Math-Courses.aspx indicates that RCC MAT-1C is a multivariable calculus course; its prerequisite MAT-1B does not appear to have any multivariable calculus in it.
