DigiPen college inquiry

Does anybody know anything about Digipen?
My daughter is considering them.
We live in New York. Is it worth it to go that far to college if the college is Digipen?

Well, I had never heard of it, so I googled it. Voila: [A Leader in Game Development Education - DigiPen](http://www.digipen.edu/main/Main_Page)

Now everyone else will know everything I know.

Digipen is down the road from where I work, and a couple of my robotics kids have gone there. Digipen is like a professional program for would-be computer game developers. If your daughter is sure that she wants to be a game developer there probably isn’t a better choice. If she’s a normal 17/18 year old and is unlikely to have correctly identified their life path, it’s terrible. It’s the computer game equivalent of the Webb Institute on Long Island – a pre-professional program for those who really know what they want. Even WashDadJr, who has been headed to a career in computer science and/or engineering practically since birth, passed on Digipen because of its narrow curriculum.

Thank you!
That’s exactly what I wanted to know.
She herself even now realizes that she is not sure whether or not she is going to pursue computer game industry career. She is definitely interested in computer science/engineering but doesn’t know yet which particular path she’ll go in the future.
Thank you again!

Washdad, my nephew was interested in that- but he ended up in a program at BCC- I hope their computer classes are more updated than the ones at NCCC.

I think a poster’s son went there several years ago. Do a google search here - there are numerous posts about it.

Hi vlevsha and anyone else who may be checking out this thread because they have a child considering Digipen,

My son was certain he wanted to do game programming and was intent on applying to Digipen. I wanted him to have exposure to computer science on a wider basis, plus I wanted him to have a typical college experience. He was adamant about it for a time so I bookmarked something I found when googling Digipen to show him if I needed it:

Even I (a clueless Mom  ! ) had heard of Sid Meier and knew his opinion would have weight. Here is his bio on his company’s website:

BTW, DS gave up on the idea on his own and just finished his freshman year in computer science at CMU.

Has your child done any game programming? My son took a course in graphics and game programming at the Columbia Summer school one year, and decided that wasn’t the direction he wanted to go. He’s at CMU too.
