I’m looking some DIII colleges with strong academics, especially in engineering. I’m interested in running cross country and track, but it would mostly likely be at the DIII level.
Some personal stats:
Act: 31
GPA: 4.0 UW/ 4.3 W
I have pretty strong ec’s but don’t feel like listing them on here.

bump I’m interested too

Well, one could start by looking at the current top 35 D3 schools in cross-country and seeing if any of them have engineering programs in which you’re interested:

<a href=“Johns Hopkins Women, North Central (Ill.) Men Set to Defend Division III Titles as No. 1 ::: USTFCCCA”>http://www.ustfccca.org/2013/11/featured/johns-hopkins-women-north-central-ill-men-set-to-defend-division-iii-titles-as-no-1

Without knowing anything about you personally, academically, or athletically, it’s pretty hard to tell which one of these or the many other D3 CC programs to suggest.

Caltech and CMU are both Division III. I think MIT is as well for XC.

Tufts?

If you find programs that are ABET acredited that is a good sign. After that it comes down to personal preference as to class size, advising system, type of students that tend to enroll, location, etc. But you will be ready for the workforce or grad school from any ABET program (assuming you do well in it, of course)

WUSTL
University of Chicago
U of Rochester
Case Western

Chicago does not have an Engineering school

OLIN!!!

That used to be true, but Chicago now has at least one engineering major (Molecular Engineering).

Thanks for the suggestions! I never thought of Tufts or U of Rochester.

folks, without any evidence that there’s a coach pursuing this student for XC, his XC skills won’t come into play, and his 31 ACT will hurt him for admission at these schools.

A 31 ACT shouldn’t hurt anyone at Rochester (29-32 is the 25-75% range for enrolled students see https://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/res/pdf/factsheet.pdf), but yes it probably would at Tufts.

you’re right, @2018RiceParent, I meant to put that caveat about Rochester in there. It’s a pretty impressive school. that we looked at.

Case Western Reserve University
U Rochester
Illinois Institute of Technology
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Rochester Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Worcester Polytechnic Institute

There’s also a couple of very fine engineering universities that field D2 cross-country teams; South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and Colorado School of Mines. Both have smaller student populations than some D3 colleges.
