dilemma over bar's drinking ads

<p>You see, there is two bars right on campus over in my school. My college is in the middle of a large area of grass and trees, so having two bars in the middle of campus is interesting.</p>

<p>They have been posting paper ads all around the dorm building I am staying in. My dorm is nearly all-freshmen, with about 90% of resident in my area either only 18 or turning 18 soon. None of us are even close to 21, thus under the drinking age. But the bar have been advertising in our building lately. Plus, they have been posting on our Class of 2016 Facebook page…talking about getting some beers or shots and that being drunk after a day of class is perfect for freshmen.</p>

<p>I know that not a single person in my residential area is anywhere near 21, and the bars is supposed to check IDs…but I know one of the bar doesn’t appear to check at all. Many people in the Facebook group have been complaining about the bar’s activity, and people in my dorm floor felt annoyed by the bright blue bar ads posted on the wall outside of our building. Even the RA on the floor below us is feeling queasy.</p>

<p>I’m wondering if we should report this to the hall director? I’m sure they know they are advertising in a housing area of nearly all freshmen (less than 40 non-freshies in my 5-buildings area). Should we report it or just leave it alone? I know that 5 of the 8 RAs in my particular building have been talking about the ads lately…</p>

<p>Seriously? You’re annoyed by what someone is writing in a facebook group and what people are posting outside the dorm? </p>

<p>People in college drink when they’re underage. That’s not changing anytime soon. </p>

<p>There is literally not one reason to make this into an issue. It happens everywhere. There are apartments at my school where mostly Orthodox Jews live and they all get slipped brochures for a local chinese restaurant…no one would eat there since it’s not kosher but they throw it out and move on with their lives. If the RAs want to take it to the hall director, leave it to them, but if not, be lucky that you have the luxury in your life of actually being concerned about this.</p>

<p>This isn’t your problem, and you just come across as a sheltered little brat. Welcome to college…kids are going to drink, and you go to a bigger state school, not a tiny LAC. The bar has just as much a right to post ads/advertise to anyone as do pizza places, chinese restaurants, and campus organizations. </p>

<p>Get over things like this now or it’s going to be a long 4 years.</p>

<p>If they are posting them in dorms, I’m sure the RAs will take care of it/report it if they think it has become a huge problem.</p>

<p>other than that, don’t worry about it. And try not to let advertising get to you, or you’ll explode when you watch the super bowl.</p>
