Dilemma..Should I transfer?

I am currently a sophomore majoring in Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Before my freshmen year started, I always thought of transferring to University of Chicago known for its Economics program.

Now I have spent almost 2 years in this college, I have made a lot of friends, and I like being here. While I was filling out the transfer application, I couldn’t find valid reasons that I want to leave here for another school, besides a better undergrad program, which might lead to better employment opportunities. But our career service and alumni networks are one of the best in the nation, which would help me a lot in my job finding, too.

However, if I got accepted into UChicago, I might have better job opportunities. And yea…my parents have been pushing me to apply to UChicago…they might go crazy if I told them I decided not to apply.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

If this doesn’t stop you from applying, it will probably stop the school from accepting you. I would not leave UIUC for UChi:

1) Money
2) Friends
3) Difference is not as drastic as people make it out to be.

Yea I guess I won’t be admitted by the school since I did not do a campus visits and thus do not know much about the school. I’ll just have to explain that to my parents…

There is always the possibility, but if you don’t even want to go to the school (which it sounds like you don’t and are very happy at UIUC), it may show in your essays. You could always apply and just see what happens: you don’t have to attend if accepted, but I wouldn’t give up a good thing since I imagine the environment at UChi is very different from that of UIUC.
