Hi I was hoping someone could provide me with some advice regarding my situation:
After high school, I returned to Singapore to serve 2 years of mandatory military service (2013-2014). In my second year, I applied and was accepted to a few Singaporean universities and also to University of Melbourne.
I also applied to some US schools in my second year, but it would be the following year (2015) that I would receive the decisions.
I finished my military service in December of the second year (2014) and decided to attend University of Melbourne in February of the following year (2015). I did this because I wanted to graduate as soon as possible (Australia is 3 years) and I wasn’t sure if I can get into any of my favourite US universities.
Now that I am in University of Melbourne, I just found out I got into UCLA, and I am waiting on my UC Berkeley decision.
I am sort of in a dilemma, because I think LA is a wonderful place (don’t get me wrong, Melbourne is nice too) and UCLA is a really reputable. I also have friends from high school who attend universities in and around LA. Because of this, I am strongly considering transferring to the US.
My questions are:
- I applied as a freshman, but now that I am in Melbourne, will my offers to UCLA/UCB still stand?
- If I do attend UCLA/UCB, will my completed classes in Melbourne be recognised? That is, can some of the credits be transferred?
- Is it worth it transferring to UCLA/UCB, taking to account my situation, length of study, lifestyle, reputation etc? Both are great schools, so is University of Melbourne.
