I have a very interesting situation where I am not able to take decision and I need help
I am current GA resident who has an option of moving to NJ. I have two kids rising high school. As a college student which state will be better to live in.
GA has few good collages and no idea abt NJ but all around in there are lot of colleges.
what should be my criteria do decide which state will be good to live for highschooler and college going kids. There is also option of sending kids to prep school nj.

I would be more concerned about high school itself than the availability of colleges.

How do the high school graduation requirements in NJ compare with those in Georgia? Will your kids be able to complete high school on time, or will they have to take so many extra courses that they will need to take an extra year to finish? If they need an extra year, that means that you’re supporting them for an extra year. Will this be a problem?

Have you researched the Hope Scholarship? and the Zell Miller Scholarship?

GA residents can go to college with greatly reduced or no tuition.
Here is a list of Hope Eligible schools

Even though my D initially wanted to go out of state. In the end the Zell Miller was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

Unless cost is not a consideration, I’d stay in GA. My brother with four kids moved there just for the Hope.

Assuming your students have the grades or whatever to get the automatic scholarship in GA, it seems like a great deal to move away from.

NJ is not a great state for state schools. I think that with the scholarships in GA, it is a better deal.

If cost is not a concern, that’s a different matter. What part of NJ would you be moving to? Do you have a realistic idea of the cost of housing in the parts close to NYC?

Hope is too good a deal to pass up. Is there a similar program in NJ?

NJ is expensive and so are our colleges. 4 years living on campus will be over $110,000 at the vast majority of schools.

How do your kids feel about it?
I would stay in GA unless staying is somehow detrimental you (job, finances, health, family ,etc)

Define “very interesting situation”.

If your kids need money for college, stay in Georgia. If money is not a consideration, and the interesting situation is a positive change, then move to NJ.
