Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives

Does anyone love this show like DH and I do? (Our dream trip has always been to drive back roads across the country, and we always wonder how we could stumble upon places like that along the way.)

Has anyone actually GONE to any of the places on DDD? Was it as good as it was made out to be on the show?

Note to self, do not watch when very hungry…

Have you ever read Roadfood by the Sterns? Very fun book to read.

Favorite Food network show. Have been to a few of the places in Seattle and they were good. Will go to the Austin ones in a few months.

Went to a burger place in St. Paul that was highlighted. It was great!

I only really watched the one where he went to a diner that I live close to but where I had never gone.

After I saw it (he seemed very impressed) I went. It was very good…for a diner. But haute cuisine, it was not. That’s to be expected, though, I imagine.

I’ve gone to a couple of the places in New England that the Sterns include in their book. And I’ve never been disappointed.

We are seriously addicted to this show.

OH, FUN! There’s a RoadFood.com, with the Sterns on the team…Guess the vaccuming won’t get done till later!

barrons, what Austin restaurants have been featured?

Never seen the show, but grew up in seattle.

Why isn’t hatties hat or the dish on this list?

Beths cafe? You have got to be kidding
:stuck_out_tongue:
red mill is great but it isn’t a diner , a drive in or a dive.
But you can get a car hop
at burgermaster.

Ezells is across from ds high school so we have had their food many times - strictly take out as is dicks except for the one on queen anne.

Beths? My stomach hurts just thinking about it
and house of hong is the one for dim sum - everybody knows that.

Ditto! Not quite sure how to blend this thread with the “Diet & Wellness” one, though …

Youdon’tsay: I’m not barrons, but here are the ones the website says were in Austin:

-Maria’s Taco XPress
-Casino El Camino
-Magnolia Cafe
-Green Mesquite

Mag’s is the only one really worth it, IMO.

I love this show! Perhaps it explains why I had to create a wellness thread.

OP here…I actually was on the Diet & Wellness one just before I started this. It was making me hungry.

I think the only way to “blend it” in with that thread is to say “Dieters, DON’T GO HERE.” ;)

Thanks, Alexa. I’ve been to three of the four. :)

We love the show too. Almost all the places he goes look great. DH says that would be a perfect retirement job for him, lol. We have been to one of the places featured in Charlotte…as good as advertised and very crowded.

My 11-year old asked me to cook something we saw on DDD. It was the “Captain Crunch coated French toast.” Let me tell you, it was amazing.

Love the show too and have been to several places Guy featured while traveling. I often consult the FN website before a trip.

Santa brought DH the DDD book which includes the recipe for the Cap’n Crunch French Toast…I wondered how it was! I’ll have to try it!
