Dining Plan?

What plan makes sense? Choice is good but it’s hard to figure what a normal pattern will be until you get there and experience it, like what the prices are at the coffee carts and non-dining hall places… So any advice?

For DD’s first semester, we went for a middle of the pack plan. She ended up running out, but we added money at the end of the semester. You can’t roll meal plan money or meals to the next semester, so you are better off adding at the end rather than losing meals and money. Now, if you are a big eater, you may want the unlimited.

Keep in mind that you can use a debit card or cash and pay the same amount as you would pay with dining dollars.

Thanks for the advice!

Also, you have ~2 weeks at the begiining of each semester to change your meal plan. Last fall, DD dropped to a lower tier after going to classes for a week – she realized she wasn’t going to eat at Market Central enough to justify the higher tier plan.

there’s no reason to sign up for certain tier/plans. for example, instead of Tier 1C, with 175 DP and 645 DD for $2275, you should go for Tier 2A, with 175 DP and 275 DD for $1865. You save $410 up front but only lose 370 DD. You can always use $410 saved to buy 370 DD later if needed and pocket all or part of that if not. Same goes for Tier 1D or 1E.
