Direct Admit CAS?

My daughter was granted direct admit to CAS. She has a number of AP classes in HS. For those of you who have also received this award, what are your thoughts?

I’m a direct admit to Arts and Sciences. Current freshman.

It’s dumb. They say that you get to skip intro level classes (BS, everyone takes the same ones) ,have access to an advisor whenever you need them (BS, I always had to wait atleast a week) and that you can declare a major any time (so can everyone else…) but none of that holds true.

The only advantage is that you don’t need to worry about getting the 2.0 GPA freshman year to automatically get into CAS as a sophomore. But really, who can’t get a 2.0?

My son is a direct admit also. We were also curious about the advantages/privileges.

Thank you for your frank assessment, LoonLake.

Any other thoughts from someone?

That’s kinda what I thought. I’ll ask a few questions this weekend when IU visits Chicago for scholars day. I’ll let you know.
