I need help with pg. 527 #6 in the BB.
I just started to understand Direct Variation and Indirect variation, and then I came to this question, and I have no clue how to even start.
And just to make sure I’m correct… my understanding of Direct variation is that you plug in the numbers into this formula. x1/y1=x2/y2. Is that right?
My understanding of indirect variation is that you plug in the numbers into the formula x1y1=x2y2. Now, is that right? Also, will the SAT ask me variation questions where I will have to do other things beside plugging in the numbers into these formulas?

Thats exactly right.

As for the actual questions on the test, you probably won’t have to do more than plugging numbers in the equation, but you might have to figure out if the equation is direct or indirect to begin with.

wel…wouldnt I find that out in the question…like in the question it will say if x is DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL or INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL, and that is how I will know what formula to plug in…correct??

It could be a word problem where you need to figure out the equation yourself.
