Direct entry at a school that has an exchange program with your Univ.

I know this depends on each school’s policy. I wondered in general though, if a school only has an exchange program in one major and a student who has another major wants to go to that school–can they go direct entry?

In many cases, yes.

Universities abroad, particularly in Europe, offer:

language and culture classes for foreigners (to learn the language of the host country)

guest student programs - where a US student (for example) can take regular classes at the university

language classes + elective/regular classes

These programs run independently of US study abroad programs.

However, many US universities send their own study abroad students to these “already made” programs for foreign students.

So, direct enrollment is possible.

Different universities abroad have different policies for visiting students, so you’d have to check look at each program.

US universities lose money if their students enroll directly, so expect some administrative resistence.

Yes that is the part I was thinking. I know the tuition at a school abroad that I had in mind and it is way cheaper than the school my son is at.
