According to the recent stats, it looks like maybe a quarter of the incoming class identified as Catholic. And any Catholic university will have Theology requirements. But I’m not here to argue about my first-person experience as non-Catholic family with a child attending UP. I absolutely agree with you that prospective students of any school should visit if they can and talk with current students as much as possible! That was the point of my original post.
The full tuition scholarship at Duquesne University was called Spirit of Excellence. It is a competitive scholarship for which there is a separate application with a specific essay. Otherwise, her weighted GPA was 4.65 ( 4.0 unweighted) and SAT was 1480.
Hi! I was wondering did your DD have to send all sat test scores that she received?
The only school that she applied to that requires all test scores received was Georgetown. But, she only took the SAT once so that didn’t matter for her. Also, she sent her scores to all of the schools that she applied to.
Just curious from last year’s applications. My daughter’s top choice is Point Loma in California. Admissions says she will hear before Christmas. For anyone whose son/daughter was accepted last year, do you remember if they heard any earlier than that?
Point Loma recently went to direct admit…so their admissions timeline might be different from last year. My DD applied there by the Nov 15th deadline and we haven’t heard anything back yet.
I am wondering what was the outcome of Hawaii/Manoa. My son submitted for Fall 2025 and I was just wondering when they typically notify. He’s been accepted to 7 other direct admit schools so far and 2 of them want a commitment and deposit.
Congrats!! What 2 wanted a commitment and a deposit now?
Your son can always deposit at his currently preferred school. If he gets accepted to a preferred college down the road, he can withdraw from the first school (in writing is best) and accept his place at the new school. The only negative is that the deposit placed at the first college will be lost. Note that he cannot have a deposit down at more than one college at the same time.
USF (in Tampa) and FAU want deposits and commitments. Housing is suppose to be hard to get at FAU so the sooner he decides the better
Thanks for this info. My D25 is nursing and it didn’t even occur to me that some of her direct admit schools might want or require her to commit prior to the May 1 deadline.
How did students first semester in nursing go? D24 had a good first semester but I still worry for her long term. She is still relying on her high school ways of studying / completing assignments (ie., wait until the last minute) and I fear that won’t work for much longer. Trying to get her to believe me though has been a losing battle - not helped when not one, but two different professors asked if they could use her work as an example for future classes. Yes, she has the right to be proud about that (and I am too) but she really needs to learn better study habits (coming from her mom, who was exactly like her and also had to painfully re-learn how to study in college).
The honors classes the first semester were wonderful though. She was able to take Anatomy and Physiology I with a class of 25 students and she said she had a great professor. The exams were short answer vs. the scantron multiple choice that the regular A&P class took and that benefitted her. Next semester though she is taking a non-honors version although she chose a class limited to 60 students vs. 250 so she is hoping it will be more like this past semester.
I’m intrested in hearing about other nursing program lower divisions. How many nursing classes are they taking freshman year?
My daughter had a great freshman first semester in nursing, but the coursework is definitely harder than a lot of other majors and she’s feeling that - especially because she plays a two season sport. To answer your nursing curriculum question, for the Fall she took a 1 credit Intro to Professional Nursing and a 4 credit Human Biology I (plus 3 other core requirements). She was also able to go into the hospital to shadow her nurse mentor a few times which was very exciting for her. This Spring she will be taking a 2 credit Health Promotion & Disease Prevention, 4 credit Human Biology II, and 3 credit Biochemistry & Human Functioning (plus two other core requirements).
Good luck to your daughter. My sense is that the nursing students love to study together, so I’m sure her study habits will evolve.
Curious where your student ended up, I have a class of 2026 starting to look who has a similar list.
She is at TCU and loves it.
