Direct Student Loans

Hey I need to only borrow about three thousands bucks for school. So I was wondering what is the best place for loans I would of ask my school but no one is every at the office I’ve called at every possible time and left ALOT of messages and still nothing. I am starting to run out of time classes start next month and I need the money to pay on my dorm and dorm security deposit, I also need the money for a meningitis shot.

Did you fill out the FAFSA to see if you qualify for any federal financial aid? That would be the first step. Through that, you may qualify for Stafford loans through the government.

Yeah, I got the tuition covered and the I still would need another hundred bucks to cover the dorm each semester. Thats why I am asking about student loans.

Bump bump bump

Instead of trying to borrow more money, can you work? If you are only talking about a few thousand dollars, you should be able to make that working during the summer. Get an on campus job for during the year, and you’ll have more than enough, and can maybe save some. Be creative, if you have a talent, give lessons, or tutor, or dog-sit, or whatever would work with even a crazy schedule.

Direct student loans are federal loans and are only available through your school. If you can’t get through to them by phone, try emailing them or going in person to see them.

Other loans would be private and would require a cosigner.

So you have your financial aid package, right? You may be eligible for some Stafford loans as well. If so, you have to apply for them. If you have already completed FAFSA, it’s just a matter of filling out the Master Promissory Note and going through the Information session for the loan.

However, you may not get the money right away. If you need to start making deposits NOW, you need to get the money elsewhere. You have to get a hold of your school’s financial aid office to find out when the funds will be accessible to you, and if there is some sort of waiver you can get for deposits if you are going to get loans and other money to cover them, in time. Typically proceeds for student loans do not become available until after the term has begun. Many schools have a free period for kids awaiting such funds where no late fees are assessed due to this delay.
