<p>I really need to get out of VA, but the only way that is going to happen is if I get some major moneys…</p>
<p>I’m interested in a nice school, size not mattering, but at least a decent rep. that I could attend for practically nothing with these stats:</p>
<p>3.44 Unweighted GPA
30 ACT Composite
decent EC’s
GREAT Rec. letters & essays (IMO?)</p>
<p>There are lots of nice small, private schools that have high sticker prices, but tend to be generous with scholarships for high-achieving students. It’s hard to judge the strength of your application just from those stats, but it sounds like you might impress those types of schools enough to draw some decent bribes. :-)</p>
<p>I applied to Santa Clara U. and Hendrix C. mainly for this reason. Hendrix C. responded with a generous scholarship offer, particularly considering that their sticker price is somewhat low to begin with. I haven’t heard back from SCU yet, but they’re known for handing out generous bribes. Another school I’d look into is Pacific U. – they seem to put a lot of weight on 9-12 UW GPA, which dissuaded me from applying (since that’s essentially my worst stat), but if you’re strong in that area you may get a nice scholarship offer (to an extremely nice, albeit not hard to get into, university).</p>
<p>If your priority is academic repute, then you’d probably be better off going to an out-of-state (or even out-of-country, say Canada or Australia) public university, despite the price discrepancy for non-local students. But if you’re thinking of a private college, I’d definitely keep an eye out for schools like the above. The great thing is that they work as safeties (if your app is strong enough), but unlike other safeties they’ll really compete for your enrollment decision.</p>
<p>If you’re interested in trying for some general scholarships (as in, scholarships not specific to the institution you’re attending), you might try a scholarship search service like [FastWeb:</a> Scholarships, Financial Aid and Colleges](<a href=“http://www.FastWeb.com%5DFastWeb:”>http://www.FastWeb.com). Just watch out for frauds – it’s amazing how they find their way into reputable scholarship databases so easily. I haven’t had much success so far myself, but some students manage to rake in enough funds to cover most or all of their tuition. Hit or miss, I suppose.</p>

look up locations you like and then ppl can help you more. There’s just so many colleges out there.</p>
<p>U Florida offers a great quality-to-cost ratio, even for OOS.</p>
<p>BYU if the honor code is not a problem for you OR if you are very conservative.</p>
<p>check out some of the bigger state universities in the south—Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn–out of state tuition, room, board are often lower than in-state costs at a VA college</p>
<p>Most texas schools have fairly cheap oos tuition. I know my friend goes to Texas A&M for 20,000 a year including room and board. It’s not free, but it is a pretty good school.</p>

<p>A public LAC in a small MN town, it has a good but not prestigious reputation. Your ACT is above their 75%. You might even be able to get some scholarship money.</p>

<p>Truman State University in Kirksville, MO is a really great school! It has a good reputation, and the tuition is a lot less when compared to other schools around here, and the education is way better. Oh, and you posted about being interested in joining the peace corps, right? Well, i know 2 truman grads that joined the peace corps…so that may tell you something about the school :)</p>

<p>you could always try clemson. I don’t know how their financial aid works but i’m pretty sure for OOS it’s not so bad and with your scores you coudl def. get a lot of it cut off probably…</p>
