Dirty Chancing: Nobody puts Brando in a corner

Thought I’d give in to the chancing craze. I don’t know what a lot of stuff on this site means, like “bump” and “10char” so if you happen to chance this, let me know what those are too.

Rising Junior. Indian Male. NOT your typical Asian/Indian applicant. Only Indian in skin tone.

Major Awards: Drama State Champion, some school awards, Cappies Spirit Award (for achievement in high school theatre), will a 219 PSAT in NJ get me a NMSF spot?

Should I retake the SAT sometime next fall for that darn writing score? Boo laziness.

Looking to study PolySci/History/IR with a minor in Drama/Theatre Arts/Cinema

Hooks: I hear I’m pretty darn good looking.

I write some very entertaining essays- quite funny, but serious and inspiring. I’ve been thinking about my Common App essay for a while now.

What do you think my chances are at:

UChicago (First Choice <3)
HYPS
Columbia
Dartmouth
Vanderbilt
Duke
Penn
Cornell (more like Borenell)
UMaryland CP
Georgetown
Swarthmore
Tufts
BU
Rutgers
Berkeley

I appreciate anything you may or may not write on this thread. Be honest! And I am so open to suggestions. If I ever see you, say hi and I’ll give you a hug and some fresh, homemade cookies.

Bro, you’re pretty funny. Let that shine through on your essays. Other than that… You have a solid GPA, good SAT (no need to retake it, goof score) and nice extracurriculars. Have you tried any competitions or Olympiads? They could strengthen your app.

Love the title of this thread…

Love your list…you will be fine!!

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the input. Any improvements or stuff I can possibly make? I might or might not have the cure to cancer, so I’ll probably put that on the app. And you’re totally serious about the SAT? Even my Indian curse?

I’m Indian too, bro. Curry power.

SAT- nothing above a 2200 really can hurt you, but if you do happen to retake it, go for a score in 2300 range.

Extras- ehh, I don’t know. Maybe partake in some national Olympiads, research, intern, get a job… Or, do something that shows passion in an area. For example, if you like to program, do a robotics competition or start a company related to doing programming services for local companies. Good luck Indian.

But the thing is, I want to be a humanities major. I could care less about science. Therefore, Olympiads and robotics competitions and scientific research means absolutely nothing to me. I’m always passionate about what I do, whether on a stage or behind a podium, but not in a lab with pretentious scientists. Plus, science stuff pulls me back into the faceless Asian mob.

You said you’re into theatre and history- maybe be a teacher for fine arts and history? Or you may want to join a theatre company? Be very serious about whatever you do.

Your chances at UChicago are great! Your stats are in line with their middle/upper applicants, and they absolutely love intelligent/witty/inspiring essays.

…marlonbrando, marry me.

Shyams, I’d make you an offer you can’t refuse, but frankly my dear, there’s only enough Brando for one. Maybe next time.

How about those other schools?

hahahahah i love you, man

Thanks! Blastoise, use Hydro Bump!

Wow, I remember how much I used to love Pokemon. Good days, they were.

Hydro Bump?

honestly though, aside from the marry me stuff. i think CC has a lot of obnoxious people that will be like “oh, ivies are a reach for everyone”…that’s not helpful at all. i think you have a above-average chance at all these schools, and although barely anyone can get into ALL of them, you will get into most (my guess). your leadership and personality makes you stand out.

wow i realize i just made at least 3 grammar mistakes right there. fail.

Thank you! Anyone else?

You have good chances, but not as great as shyams is implying. The Ivies ARE a reach for everyone, unless you are a once-in-a-lifetime student (aka ranked nationally/internationally for something, have created a company/organization that is worth a lot of $, or have overcome absolutely horrible circumstances to become incredible). And your GPA and SAT score, while certainly very good, will not be among the top scores these schools see for their applicants.

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply. Because you have very good stats, and chances are, you’ll get into at least one top school, if not a few more. Good luck!

Most* … We do APUSH in one year

Couldn’t*, Just saying, lol.

Sorry i really can’t chance you because I’m not qualified to do so, but I hope you enjoy the bump  btw a bump is like the action in which you bring a thread back up to the top of the thread list.

People write “bump10char” to satisfy the CC character limit. You must have at least ten total characters in a post, so the bump part is pretty self explanatory but the 10char part stands for 10 characters. I figured this out on my own!!!
