Disadvantages of 4 person rooms?

I’ve been looking at layouts for dorms at the college I will be attending next year, and the 4 person rooms seem to get the most bang for the amount of space.

The obvious advantage is the increase in space, but are there any disadvantages?

I’d also like to hear peoples’ thoughts on this. My primary concern is that my three roommates will all become best friends and I’ll be the awkward extra. Lol.

I’m in a quad, technically a triple since the 4th roommate didn’t show up, and even though I didn’t ask for one, I enjoy it. You’ll appreciate the amount of space a quad features over a double. Plus it may be cheaper to live in a quad. I get along with my roommates and don’t have any problems with them. Honestly you might be friends with at least one after the year is over, or you may simply just share the space together but each roommate may find their own group of friends to hang with. If you click with them, great, if you don’t, don’t let it get you down, just try not to shun them because you didn’t fit in with them, but use that energy to find your own friends.

Instead of having to work around one person’s schedule, you’d have to work around three to get alone time or special time with a significant other. That’s the biggest drawback I see.

3x the chance that your roommate snores.

The advantage: more space for parties and social activities.

The disadvantages: less privacy, less quiet time, more potential for roommate conflicts. I would not recommend a quad if you are a light sleeper, since your roommates will probably be on different schedules and active in the room while you are (trying to be) asleep.

I would hate a quad haha - I had a triple freshman year and it was terrible because we all had opposite schedules and so the lights would be on all the time while sleeping/it would be incredibly noisy, and if you ever want alone time, you aren’t going to get it… most likely at least one person will be in that room, always

All 3 could gang up against you or leave you out of things…if it can happen with a group of friends it can happen with roommates

Well, the previous posters pretty much covered all the points that could happen.
I, for one, am in a situation where I get left out of things, so that might or might not happen to you.
Good luck with deciding.
