disappointed at first year of college, how can I make second year better?

Its been a long first year for me at college and I honestly feel like I am leaving this year thoroughly disappointed.

I made great grades and joined a few clubs (unfortunately they were not very friend conductive) but overall feel like i have missed out. I dont feel like I have made any close connections with anyone and have felt very lonely during the course of the year (it doesnt help that I have a single room) and I worry that the rest of my college experience will be like this. I feel like I have missed out on the freshman experience.

I have heard many say it gets better after the first year, so I am trying to stay optimistic, but I find it hard to do so.

Did second year get better for you? if so what did you do?

I have already made tried to make improvements by changing housing to a room - living room dorm and will bring my car to campus. Is there any other suggestions you guys have to improve my 2nd year?

You should read the book How to Make Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. It’s a great read. How I made friends during Freshmen year is I joined a fraternity. I made very close relationships with many people. I’m not sure what else you should do besides invite yourself into what your current friends are doing and also inviting them. By doing that you will get invited to more stuff and build more memories with other people.

Try to find more ways to meet people.
Start a study group.
Join a fraternity.
Join the activities planning board
Join a service group
Figure out where people in your dorm eat dinner and eat with them
Attend all dorm activities
Talk to the counseling center and ask them
Talk to your RA and ask them
Get some people on your hall to have a party with you
Join an intramural team
Initiate activities “Hey who wants to go Rockclimbing?”
