Hello so my weighted GPA is 3.8 but my sat score is very bad at 1070. I’ve taken it before and got 1040. I barely improved a little. The problem is that I want to get into a good UC school like ucla, ucsd, or even uci but with my sat score I have slot hope. I’m currently a senior and plan to take the sat for the last time I’m not sure when though before college apps. I really want to get a career in the dental field. Are uc school recommend as undergrad for dental school or can CSU also work because I have a higher chance of getting into. I was thinking cal state Long Beach or Pomona slo . Thanks guys.
If dental school admission works like med school admission, then the “prestige” of your college is much less important than your undergraduate GPA and your performance on the relevant entrance exams. Attending a CSU campus will certainly not disqualify you from a career in dentistry if you excel as a student!
Try not to be too discouraged about your disappointing SAT score. While simply re-taking the test might not do much to improve your performance, these scores can be raised with a bit of preparation on your part. My daughter, for example, didn’t really do any prep for her initial sitting of the SAT, and she wasn’t happy with her math score. Thus we invested in one or two of the standard SAT prep books that you can easily find at a Barnes and Noble or via Amazon, and she spent hours in the week before her second sitting working through the math sections of these books. With that relatively minimal investment of prep time (some kids attend weekly SAT prep courses for YEARS before they take the tests!), she was able to raise her math score by 100 points. The lower your scores to begin with, the more room you have for improvement. It can be done. Good luck!
Thank you I appreciate it
You should also try the ACT. Some students do better on one test than another.
I’d try the ACT and see what happens. I’d also note that = assuming that’s your CSU GPA, you have the stats to get into all the CSUs except CP SLO… you’d probably also make UCR and UCM - that’s nothing to be ashamed of.
I’d also note that there is no SAT score that would get you into UCLA or SD… .so, perhaps you should just let your record stand.
Add SDSU to your application list and enjoy your Sr year.
Good luck.
