Discouraged; Chance me?

I’m feeling very discouraged after this early round of decisions. Although the schools I have been rejected by are very difficult to get into, I’m just worried I won’t even get into the ones I’m hoping to get into.
So far I’ve gotten rejected by Hopkins and Norte dame, deferred by UChicago, and accepted by my back drop u of Colorado boulder.
I was just hoping I could get chanced for the other schools I am applying to.

NYU, Boston college, Rice University, Northwestern University, University of Southern California, Northeastern University, Syracuse University, University of Miami (legacy-mom dad and sister studied here)

I’m really hoping for NYU or Boston College.

Which universities do you think I have a chance at?

Female planning to double-major in Chemistry and Spanish and be Pre-Med

1900 on SAT
580 math
680 writing
640 reading
(Taking again but will be too late for most colleges. I’ll get the results back in mid-feb.)

27 on ACT

400+ volunteer hours
Club positions: president of one, vice-president of another, secretary of another
Had 2 jobs: one over summer 10th grade one during the school year in 11th grade
By the time I graduate 4 AP classes and 8 Dual-enrollment classes (college classes)
4.5 weighted GPA
3.64 Unweighted
Ranked 25 out of 640 (top 3%)
Did summer program at Hopkins and UChicago
Wrote very good essays

Not very impressive compared to most people on this site but I’m still hoping that I have a chance at these universities. Feel free to be harsh!

Bump… anyone answer?

Google the common data set for each of these schools for the last year in which they reported stats on admitted students. Check the section (C, I believe) with the academic profiles for admitted students. That is your best source of information on your chances of admission, coupled with the level of selectivity.

If most or all of your stats are in to top 25% for a selective school (NW or Rice), then you have a match, if not, then a reach. If you are in the mid-range for less selective schools, you have a match, etc…

Rice University, Northwestern University, University of Southern California, Boston College
are all REACH. Meaning you have chance, but don’t hold your breath. You are not in their reported stat ranges, though they do accept student outside of them, there isn’t a whole lot.

NYU - Good shot, this is a HIGH MATCH, meaning you are on the cusp of their middle range of students, but have a better chance of getting in here than at the ones above.

Northeastern University, Syracuse University, University of Miami
These are matches…they fall within your stat ranges, great shot of getting in

A much recommended list worth looking at if you think you need to add more options: [Colleges That Change Lives | Changing Lives, One Student at a Time](http://www.ctcl.org/) You would definitely be in range for many of them, and quite a few have rolling admissions and/or later application cut-off dates.

Theres no use worrying anymore. Just sit back and wait for the results. Make the most of your senior year and no matter what college you get into you will still have the opportunities to do great things and change the world we live in.

You could probably get into NYU with a 27 ACT. My sister got in with a 29 but knows people who have gotten in with scores as low as a 24. She absolutely loves it there. If you get in I’d recommend that school. I wish I was smart enough to get in haha.

You have a chance for NYU! The rest are reaches! Good luck!

Does everyone in the US regardless of scores and ECs aim this high… I’ve seen people with 2100+ ecstatic over getting into average unis and here we have someone with bare average scores applying to top unis :S

This is me being harsh. However you have a great shot at Northeastern, Syracuse, and Miami.
The rest including NYU are long shots.

These are certainly not bare average scores. A 27 ACT is well above the 80th percentile. (I think. Somewhere around there.) Average would be like… 20, or 21.

Don’t be disappoint; there is a school out there that’s perfect for you

Thank you for all the great replies! I thought I might as well give it a shot to apply to the reach universities because I only live once so I like to know that atleast I tried to get into them. It was very refreshing to see the replies about Syracuse and Northeastern because I would be more than ecstatic to attend either of those universities.

Good luck to the rest of you!

I mean average in terms of this site.
