Hi everyone,

I applied for RD for the Class of Washington University 2014!!! I also applied for Compton Scholarship, and I think it would be great to get to know as many people who also applied for this scholarship. So, this thread is for introducing about yourself and feel free to show your application or any comments/predictions about this scholarship. Let me start first so you guys will have enough bravery to follow!!

I’m an international applicant(Vietnamese) who dreamed of being a member of WUSTL this year, as well as of the Compton Scholarship!! I had a very low SAT score with 1890 as superscored(CR: 490, M: 800 and WR: 600) but I luckily also send them my TOEFL score as required, which is not that bad(90/120). I also got 800 on SAT 2 Math 2. You can see my stats are not impressive at all! Okay, the most interesting and maybe unique parts in my application are my ECs and my essays, which totally talk about mathematics and everything you can imagine that relate to a pure/ theoretical mathematician. Apparently, I didn’t save all of my essays that I wrote but the first one, so here it is:

In which of your accomplishments during high school do you take the greatest pride? (Choose no more than three, and be specific)
Answer:

Gold Medalist on Canadian Math Open Challenge(top 25/8365 participants)- top 10 in international region- qualify for Canadia Math Olympiad 2010

13th place on Virginia Undergraduate National Math Contest- the first undergraduate math contest that I took. Although my Calculus BC class did not even cover enough half of the materials on this exam, I did well enough to place higher than some contestants in top 500 PUTNAM 2008

Silver Medalist on USAMTS 2007- the first national math contest with flexible time constraint(full month to submit solution) that I took. It gives me an invaluable experience of doing math contest as math research by thinking of the problems constantly everyday.

I will try to post more stats later about 5 parts required of this scholarship. In the meantime, hope to hear from many of you guys so that we can get to know each other.
