Discussions Gates Millenium Scholarship - 2010-2011

Do not lose hope kimtho101, people are still not sure about that message. Don’t discourage yourself.

Thanks angel0407 but I’m pretty positive only finalist are getting the “0 out of 5” message…Can you still apply once you’re in college?

^^^^^
No, you can only apply as a High School Senior.

Don’t worry kimtho101, there’s still time! What race are you? I’m not sure which races have been notified yet, i know they tend to notify by race

Does anyone know if they copy the recommender/nominator on the emails? Back in the old days when it was paper only, I always received a copy of my nominee’s acceptance. Don’t want to call my students this late- but I’m also sure I would have heard from them by now if they were finalists.

charissa I’m Asian…It’s the phone message thats discouraging me right now :(

for all you people that want to check their status call this number:

1-877-690-4677, this is the GMS phone status checker. They will tell you if they sent you a mail. You have to punch in ur id code and ur ssn so have those ready when you call. For me, it said a letter has been sent so it should arrive within the next few days. Good luck to all!

If you do not get the 0 out of 5 message does that mean that you did not get it?

Anyone know how many finalists got chosen this year? I read that about two years ago the number was 1,800.

charissa, I’m going to urge you to follow GA2012MOM’s (as always excellent :)) advice and post a separate question about the IRA. People have till April 15th of 2010 to make a contribution for a 2009 IRA. Your parents may be able to make a contribution which would lower your EFC. You would have to update your FAFSA info to reflect this. There are some extremely knowledgeable posters in this forum. kelsmom works in a college FA office. swimcatmom is very knowledgeable. Make a separate post and be sure to let people know this determines whether you qualify for Gates or not.

Hello all… I still haven’t received any form of notification. However, my friend received notification yesterday at 3:42 p.m on her status… she was selected as a finalist I am so proud of her… Congrats good luck!!! I am still awaiting my status

I was told that all finalist notifications were sent out tomorrow, so the emails must’ve all been sent out and the letters in the mail as well.

do u mean yesterday?

Oh man yes that’s what I meant. Crap.

Have any Hispanics received a notification (email or letter)? I can’t seem to find any posts to indicate so.

I don’t think so Affe.

no im a hispanic but nothing yet! =[ but the recording didnt tell me anything about the 0-5 documents.

I called the GMS hotline (1-877-690-4677) and followed the automated voice directions to check my status as a nominee, and it told me that it did NOT find my registration ID/social security number combination on their record. I clearly remember having my application in by the deadline. My nominator and recommender also met the deadline. I even talked to a GMS representative and she said just look out for the mail in the next few weeks.

My friend (Asian) received his finalist notification last night and another friend (Asian) called the GMS hotline telling her that the letter was on its way on the mail.

I sent them an email today and got a quick response which told me that the letter notifying me as a finalist or not will come in the next few weeks.

All parts of my application were sent out on time and now GMS tells me I’m not in their records? I’m losing hope.

Has anyone else tried calling the number only to find out that GMS can’t even pull up your record?

I’m Asian as well.

I am hispanic and have yet to receive a response.

I called them and they said mine didn’t match either!! I’m going to call them and actually speak to a representative! I’m African-American.
