Well what exactly does the regret you didn’t make it letter say exactly?

Haha. I sent mine off on Friday. To San Fran it goes, too. And the numbers, like. How the school offers you financial aid, I ddnt include that if it came with the acceptance letter. I just sent the accetance letter with everything else they had asked for. Haha. The phone call made me SO NERVOUS. Haha.

I faxed everything out as soon as possible after the decision came. Faxed official transcript, school profile, and college acceptance letter day of, and the GPA verification form and SAR a few days later once the packet came.

HEY GUYS! haha hows everyone? oh wow… this wait is killllinnngggg me!! ahaha… who all is going to prom? and who all is Asian from here? i wondeer how many asians got selected as Finalists… and ohh one more questions… is the decision now solely based upon grades and financial stuff or even more community involvements?

Did anyone living in California sent in a University of California school as their college acceptance letter? (UCIrvine, UCLA, UCSD, etc.) Thanks! It seems as if most people are sending in private colleges… (just checking, although lots of people have told me that it does not make a difference)

@dilasha: It’s a month. It’ll go by sooner than you know. Probably not as many as black/Hispanics, as 150 Asians are eventually scholars, while it is 350 for black/Hispanic each I hear.

They just make sure everything in your app is right basically I believe.

You can send an acceptance wherever. A lot of Gates kids wind up at state schools, or even community colleges.

@ Lucky2010, maybe you cant understand me, because you’re not the one that got rejected :]
ps: don’t worry, I’m not going crazy yet.

Ha. I’m going crazy waiting for April!

I think the breakdown is:
350 African Americans
350 Hispanic Americans
150 Asians / Pacific Islander Americans
150 Native Americans / Alaska Natives

I remember reading that earlier, too. I’m Hispanic so wish me luck you guys. :)

@2010ISHERE, I sent in UT and I’m in Texas. Was gonna send in my Baylor or Rennselaer but was weird about RPIs’ being online and I can’t find my official Baylor one. So UT it was!

I don’t think it matters, I’d love to send in one from CMU ha, just for me.

Who knows the breakdown anyway? Like…mmm, I was kinda thinking white people should be allowed to apply if they don’t make enough money either. I feel like, I don’t know, I don’t want to go to college and feel like an affirmative action case. That’s my biggest fear I guess. Like, so a lot assume I’m only getting into engineering schools because I’m a girl or because I’m mexican and really, I feel like I’m more than that.

Eh. I’m good at math, heh, only thing I’m good at sometimes (and physics but just because there’s math) so that’s why. Also, built a robot once and loved it, kicked major butt.

Though, I kinda like the requirements of it. Like, people say “you were only choosen because you’re hispanic” No! The scholarship is for all minorities so being hispanic is nothing unique for it. “only because of a good SAT score!” mmm, I don’t know, can’t recall ever submitting my SAT score to gates. “well, then it’s because you’re a girl in engineering!”

and the last is like “mmm, not sure how to deny that” because I did write engineering as my intended major

But I think it’s more than that? My essays were really stupidly honest (because in my mind I was like ‘not gonna get it, no need to lie’, maybe they liked that too.

I really hope it’s like some of ya’ll are saying, about just making sure you’re eligible and with need. Oh, that’d be sweet.

^Tell them off if they tell you that you only got the scholarship or into college for being Hispanic (or for being a girl or whatever other stupid things they way). They act like minorities only get into college based on their race. We actually have to get the grades too.
I mean, how many of us would actually make a big scene in the admissions office if we didn’t get in somewhere? It’s not our fault that many colleges need to increase their diversity. -_-

No joke right? I mean, if I’d known I could just go to college for being a minority I’d never taken IB classes or bothered as much as I did. No one told me this little secret till last year and still I’m not sure it’s that big a deal so I can’t yet slack.

Hi everyone, I was just named finalist for the gates scholarship and I wanted to know my chances of getting it. I’m
-Hispanic girl, first in family to go to family
-96 unweighed and 98 weighed average
-31 ACT
-1990 SAT; 770 chemistry SAT II; 740 US History SAT II; 690 Math 1 SAT II

Do I have a chance of winning the scholarship?
I just sent in all my information except my acceptance letter today by fax. I haven’t received any calls though. I’m just soo nervous, thanks for the help! Really appreciate it :)

90% chance of getting the scholarship, and no one knows with Columbia. So yeah, wait and see.

So again with the 90%? Is that for everyone that has a 90% chance? My scores are lower, haha, but I wrote my but off. I wrote from the heart. Well. I just hope that everyone could get jt and there wouldn’t be a 2nd round. Just everyone should get it! :D

How can you even chance for a scholarship program?

just like that apparently…ha, I don’t get it either
