Discussions Gates Millenium Scholarship - 2010-2011

@ricebayb: Oh Yay! I looooveeed RYLA, miss it so much. =)

@hotdancer924: Go to the following link, scroll all the way down, at the bottom there’s links to the lists by name, by state, by city.

hi pris1018! =)

@hotdancer924: here’s the link: http://gmsp.org/Img/UserDir/docs/Cohort%2010%20by%20home%20state.pdf

and what university are you going to?

@hotdancer924: sorry, i gave you the wrong list, it’s this one: http://gmsp.org/Img/UserDir/docs/cohort%2011%20press%20kit%20state%20(04-20-10).pdf

This may have been already answered (if so, I’m sorry lol), but does anyone know when the first conference will be held?

I am going to WashU. how about u?

Does anyone know if I get a single, and unlimited meal plan if gates will cover it. Or do they expect for a scholar to take on the cheapest stuff so as to not go over the budget that the school has made for you?

Ahaha I totally forgot to put in the link…my bad.

@mexicandelight: Gates will cover however much food is listed in your Cost of Living. Soo say your cost of living for food says “$500” (i just put an arbitrary number) and your unlimited meal plan is $550, it wouldn’t all be covered. I think. Not sure on this one, but that’s what it seems like to me.

@Hotdancer924: I love Florida, so I’m staying here :). I’m going to the University of Miami.

@Mexicandelight: I think Gates covers whatever meal plan you decide to get, because on the paper that we got, it says to give an estimate of what YOU will need, not the estimate for the AVERAGE student, at least that’s what I understood.

has anyone got their login and password for the website?

@2010Here
I got it about a week ago.

2010Here:
I got mine like a week ago. The username should have been in your acceptnace packet though…

Does anyone know if Gates covers everything minus your EFC? Because even though my EFC is 0, my school has a standard student contribution of 2370. I’m really hoping Gates will pick up this extra cost. Does anyone know how they go about this?

Is that $2370 is listed under Student Summer Contribution? If it is, Gates will not cover that.

Gates will cover whatever meal plan you choose. I’m not sure who asked that question but just to answer it, it will cover any meal plan. The Conferences will be help later on in the year and depending where you live notices will be sent out in either Sept. or Oct. One will be in the East and another in the West. ID’s will be sent out later on to log in to the website but DON’T FREAK OUT if you don’t get one right away because these things are assigned to 1000 people IN THE NATION!! Gates won’t cover med or law school. Any major is covered for undergrad. Work with your financial aid officer if you need health insurance or anything else like travel covered. Gates won’t cover summer classes but will cover study abroad if it is during the school year. You can’t lose the scholarship if your EFC changes over the year. Anything else just PM me!

How are we supposed to access this site? What email, screen name, and password are we supposed to use? Thanks! :)

You got a screen name and password in the mail they sent to you. Once you log in, you change that given sn/password into something you want and would remember.

Can college/junior students apply this scholarship for undergrad or grad school?

Does Gates pay for studying abroad?

Only high school seniors, or people that have graduated high school but not attended college yet, can apply.

Gates pays for studying abroad if it is during the normal academic year; it does not fund any summer study abroad programs.
