After following this thread I ventured out and found the Quantum Powerballs at our grocery store. I really didn’t see an improvement in our very cloudy glasses after the first wash. However, after the second wash I could see some clear spots…after the third wash there is even more improvement…hoping by the end of the 10 pack to have clear glasses…think we just might…They are not cheap. I think they were around 40 cents a wash.

and I am introducing competitions… :)

^You will not find any dishwasher that uses proper amount of water. We had one, it was about 17 years ago. They are all dead by now. It was awesome, I could pile up at least 2 times as many dishes and run 15 min. cycle with very cheap non-smelly detergent. It was very noisy, but for 15 min. I could tolerate it. The difference was that it used enough water. It appears to me that the old ones are much more economical, saving energy, detergent cost and milder (better for environment) detergent and our time. Yes, it used more water, but I did not need to rinse smell off, to run it without detergent to get rid of smell and I piled up at least 2 times more dishes.

I found the Finish quantum at Dollar General today. 10 count for 3.00. I don’t know if that was a good price or not.

^^30 cents a load is on the high end. You can buy a case on amazon for 20 cents per load. If your kid has an amazon student account you can also save the shipping.

^^^ its like 15c on Ebay, shipping included.

I think I paid $3.69 plus tax for 10 at the grocery store…I just wanted to try them and if I was happy with them I was going to look for a cheaper source…thanks for the ebay suggestion…I’ll look there as we’ll probably want more…

I just bought 150 Finish Quantum Powerball for $6.xx and paid shipping $10.95 on ebay. I was the winner in an auction. Not using BIN. :)

I like the quantum powerballs, lemi shine(learned about it on CC) also use white vinegar in the rinse container thing-works as well if not better for me than Finish stuff.

ok, here is my findings on Quantum Powerball detergent:

I have an old Whirlpool 940 series Dishwasher that came with the house, nothing fancy but It works.

The things that Quantum Powerball won’t do:
- Oatmeal marks.
- Dried vegetable leafs on the knife or spoons.

In each case, I rinse the items, but not clean them. Small pieces may have left there. So the washer won’t clean. Especially Oatmeals, it always left a ring near the mouth of a bowl. I need to sponge it afterwards.

I always use the cycle that pre-heat the water, even the water was hot befor the washer is turned on.

Time to change the washer?

Thoughts?

Time to get new bowls/flatware AND a new dishwasher! :)

Well I guess that I am lucky that my 25 year old KitchenAid dishwasher still does a great job. I always pre-wash anyway and I use the Kirkland Costco brand. Forgot to buy that a couple of months ago and bought a supermarket brand, not Cascade that was horrible, would never get again. It came in a light yellow plastic container.
