Dislocated Worker?

I hate to ask this question, but the Oct FAFSA date is quickly approaching and I’m quite confused on this issue.

Here is our current situation. I am a SAHD with the retired military pension. My DW has taught 1st grade for the past 2 school years under non-continuing/leave replacement contracts that ended with this past school year. Unfortunately, she has been unable to secure a continuing contract in our school district and will only be able to substitute as needed. This type of employment is sporadic at best and we only plan for 5 days/month at $100/day.

Since she was let go effective this past June, and applied to several district openings without any luck securing full-time employment, would she be considered a dislocated worker for the October FAFSA. She did not quit, nor was she fired and is actively looking for a teaching position in the district.

Thoughts?

She could be a dislocated worker.

But really this on,y benefits you if your annual family income is below $50,000 a year.

And the 2017-2018 FAFSA will use 2015 tax year information.

You would, have to contact the college and ask for a special circumstances consideration in light of the job loss.

But really…a lot depends on what your military pension amount is.
