Dismissing 70 for GPA

Is it possible for a school to dismiss a student’s 70 in an AP science on account of a doctor’s note about a concussion though student is doing fine in all other subjects and sports?

I don’t understand what you mean by “dismissing” a grade. You mean dropping it from the GPA?

Personally, I think that if the concussed student is doing fine in all other classes and still paying sports (!) that if I were in charge I would say no way. Sounds like the class is simply difficult for the student.

If a school does that then what action other students can take if their ranking is effected by it?

You can see if the school will let you retake the course and if it had grade replacement.
You can see if the counselor will address it in the recommendation letter

But really, isn’t it a true reflection of the work the student did?

@“yalie 2011”

You have a couple of threads about GPA, course, grades, etc.

What do you really want to know??

General opinion or standard practices about the issues I posted so I know if it’s just that I find it odd or is it something that needs to be discussed with the district administration. There is a lot of GPA gaming going on in our district.

Your district admin level will discuss a single class grade with a parent? For real? The kid earned the grade? Or do you mean the kid missed graded work?

Anything’s possible, but selectively cherry picking which grades count seems very fishy.

They did and I was surprised to hear it.

School officials won’t discuss the health or academic records of another student with you. They might explain general policies, but those should be in the district’s student handbook. If there seem to be a lot of issues, concerned parents need to take it up with the school board because they’re the ones who create the policies.

In regards to the particular student, if it’s true, perhaps there was an exam or missed assignment in the AP class soon after the injury that affected the grade. If no other classes had exams or missed projects, those classes wouldn’t have been affected. A coach in our area was fired recently for letting a kid play with a concussion because it’s unsafe and against regulations. If that student tanked an exam around the time of the concussion, I bet that district would have dropped it too.

Yes…this is possible.

You seem to feel there is a lot of “GPA gaming” in your district…and have a couple of threads discussing this.

Have you already been accepted to college? What do you REALLY want to know here??

The OP’s posts seem to be about other students. Why the obsession about rank?
