Disneys attempt to trademark "Seal team six"

I have always liked Disney. This is just crass. They just lost a huge fan.

Any links?

Oops, found it:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110525/ap_on_en_tv/us_disney_seal_trademark

Anyone can apply to trademark almost anything. It does not mean that the trademark will be approved by the USPTO. Disney vs the US Navy… My money is on the Navy :)

Bad move, Disney.

I certainly hope they do not succeed. Whether they do or not, it has left a very bad impression on me. Not only the fact that the day after it happened they rushed in and did this. But the fact that they are trying to make money off a group of people who risk their lives for this country. There must be a stronger word than crass, I just can’t think of any polite ones right now.

“Trademark” is not a “Patent”. I view it as just another publicity attempt.

Jon Stewart is not exactly correct. The happy meal deal would have to involve Mickey D in addition to Mickey M.

A quick search in TESS using “Seal team” as the keyword yielded 18 hits, and not just Disney.

Lots of what I would call “a nice try”, for instance, here is a software one:

[Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS) NovaLogic](<a href=“Trademark Search”>Trademark Search)

And here is the Disney’s:

Note that there were serveral applications that followed it. :)

Oh they withdrew it? Well that’s good. What the hell were they thinking.

ha!------The same day that I heard the name SEAL TEAM 6, I joked with H that the big mouse will try to copyright this name so that they can make some crass animated film on the exploits of anthropomorphic seals fighting terrorism. So this was no surprise. (I’ve never been a big fan of the Disney Corp. )

Charles Steinberg and the USPTO made a few bucks. :)
