Distribution Requirements and Integrated Science

I was wondering when students who take Integrated Science typically complete their distribution requirements. It seems like Integrated Science combined with fulfilling major prereqs would delay distribution requirements till junior and even senior year. Is this typical or am I missing something? For example, as a physics major my math, physics, and int. science courses would end up taking 3 courses per semester for my first two years, leaving only 4 courses for requirements–unless it’s normal to take more than 4 courses some semesters?

Thanks!

most people take 5 courses several semesters, especially freshman spring and sophomore fall. You don’t take any physics classes other than integrated your freshman year, so you have integrated (x2) and a math each semester, and so you have 3 classes to spare freshman year, one of which is a writing seminar, so you have 2 classes of your choosing. Sophomore year you take integrated, physics, and maybe a math each semester (depending on where you start math, and when you want to do your second 300 level math class), so you have another 3-4 classes of your choosing. Most people take a couple distribution requirements each year, leaving 1 or 2 for senior year after all of your major requirements are done and you want a break from your thesis. Physics majors generally have very few if any required classes senior year.
