Diversifying Teacher Recomendations?

OK so I’m an Asian, so it goes with out being said that I’m a Math and Science guy. I got an 800 on my SAT M, SAT2 2C, and SAT2 Chem. 5’s on AP Calc AB and AP Chem.

BUT I am obviously weaker in verbal. I got a 690 CR and a 4 on AP Lang.

So, if I need 2 teacher recommendations should I go with my Math and Science teachers (who I know will say I’m like top and stuff) or should I go with 1 Math or Science and 1 English or German (who will probably spite me for only a 4 on the AP exam…)

Do you think diversifiying teacher recs will do anything or should I just be the 1-D asian.

Choose the two who know you best, who will write the strongest recs, and who can convey your passion(s) in their recommendations.

Even at the risk of conpromising my individuality?

Your individuality can come out in your essay and in other aspects of you application. I think it’s always best to ask the teacher you knows you the best.

Ask for recommendations from teachers who will write you the best ones, simple as that. :)

Using that technique will strength the perception of your individuality, not dilute it; though math/science is a common theme, strong recommendations (in addition to a strong application displaying such passion for it) that emphasize it can only help.

on penn’s site it says choose teachers in fields that you plan on pursuing. does that mean for me (engineering) math and science teachers

i’m azn, i’d go with math and science, they’ll do you good
especially with your engineering backup. you don’t need german for that, right?

What school do you go to where they spite you for a 4? German is somewhat useful for engineering, Ice, given that Germany is one of the engineering centers of the world. Get who knows you best but I wouldn’t take someone off a list just because you got a 4 on an exam, especially if you did well in their class.

Just make sure the university doesn’t require certain teachers to write the recommendations. MIT, for example, asks for one math / science teacher and one humanities teacher. Other than that, though, go for the ones that will write the best recs.
