How high is the standard of division III soccer? Like in comparasion to professional teams. If anyone is familiar with the English league, would it relate to maybe conference or non-league teams? Also is it hard to get into these teams?
Where i come from the standard is relatively high and I play on a regular basis for school and club.

that bad then?

The standard is actually somewhat high. Most players won’t have any chance to play , unless they are on a quality team (premier team). The common misconception about division three soccer, is that it is easy to play. You have to be a good player to make the team, and even better to play.

What I’ve observed is that you have to be a strong player on a premier team to play Division I. But Division III typically takes a lot of kids who are passionate about soccer and really love the game, but aren’t necessarily stand out players. If you were in the top 3 or 4 of your high school varsity soccer team, you could potentially play Division III.

what is a premier team? I’m international so not really familiar with this. I’m definitely not the best in the team, but would consider myself to be pretty good. Used to be better but stopped playing for a while, so I’m going play a bit more to have a better chance.

A premier team is a high end club soccer team (levels are premier, gold, silver, bronze.) Honestly, I’ve been surprised in some cases how easy it has been for some players to be recruited for and make a Division III college team, but honestly most of my observations have been for girls soccer, not boys soccer.

If you are an international student you are set

@MLDWoody: Why is that?

The average international student is better at soccer than the average American

… but then again you are talking about an official school team, not just like a pick up game or something

From my High School soccer team this year, 4 players are going Divion 1, and 3 are going to a division 3 school. All of these players were standout footballers. Being a club player myself, I can say that is possible to play D3 as a club player, but you need to be top notch.

And no, the average international student is not better at soccer tham the average american. Another common misconception. Youth Soccer in american is very good, contrary to the common belief that it is poor.

… if you took a random group of Americans and a random group of International students and asked them to play a game of soccer, I’d put my money on the international students

That’s fair to say, but if you took just a random group of american players, and international players, id put my money on the americans.

Idk… if we actually took a TEAM from America vs a TEAM from another country, it’d be closer than the ransoms game, but i still might give the edge to the Internationals

The term ‘internationals’ is so vague, though.

Sure, if you compare a Division III team to an amateur team from Asia - the chances are, the internationals will lose.

But if you compare La Masia, a relatively small soccer academy that I grew up living near to and which produced the three officially best soccer players as of 2011, to a Division III team, or any professional team in the US - it’s simply incomparable.

The best way to lookk at rosters of some D III schools you are considering. You could also look at where that team stands, and in what conference. I bet it varies widely.

My son had a visit with this one. He was in a top 20 in N. Cal premier team, played in some decent tournaments (i.e. surf cup)and MVP in his high schools conference.

I guess your right using the term internationals is vague. I’ve played soccer with people from so many different countries at Michigan and that’s only after one year, i love it. And some are better than others.

I just mean that a child in almost every other country is more likely to play soccer than here.

Just found out they are D1, so it is highly unlikely i will be playing lol ohh well, might aswell still try

^Club teams are pretty competitive
