Hi I was accepted into dus and I want to go into the business school but I know I have to keep up a 3.8 to get into it. I was wondering how easy it is to keep up a 3.8 and if it is even worth trying. The person I spoke to said I have to keep up a 3.8 all 4 years at penn state. I also got into university of illinois business school. Thanks

The person you spoke to doesn’t know what they’re talking about. You must keep have a 3.2 GPA at the end of your sophomore year with at least a C or better in 8 pre rec classes.

@etuck24 is it easy to keep up those grades?

A 3.2 is a B+ average, and its a pretty rigorous task because those pre rec classes I mentioned are not fluff classes by any means. In the first two years you need to get a C or better in Business calculus (Math 110), Freshman English (Eng 015), Introduction to Management (MGMT 301), Introduction to Marketing (MKTG 301), Corporation Finance (FIN 301), Financial and Managerial Accounting (ACCTG 211), Introductory Statistics (STAT 200/SCM 200) and another class that escapes me right now. Its definitely doable but its challenging. No grade inflation here. Finance majors require a 3.5 heading into Junior year.

@etuck24 so do you think it’s worth it or do you think I should just go to the illinois since I already got into their business school

Well its no different in DUS than if you were admitted to the business school here. The kids directly admitted to the business school take the same classes and are held to the same standards, so if they dont meet that 3.2 when they’re done with sophomore year, then they dont get admitted to the business school. I myself am a DUS student trying to do smeal, and lots of people do. Its certainly not uncommon.

@etuck24 okay thank you for all your help

How are you doing so far Etcuk if I may ask. How about some of your peers trying for the same goal?
