<p>I’m curious about my ancestry and finding relatives I don’t know and am thinking of using one of these sites. I know nothing about them - are they worth it? Which one is best? etc. What have your experiences been?</p>
<p>I have used all 3. 23 and me was originally oriented towards health information and only secondarily for ancestry. I’ve found that many supposed relatives don’t respond on 23 and me. I find FamilyTree DNA assessment of my countries of origin suspect, and it differs notably from the assessment from both 23 and me and Ancestry DNA, which both match my genealogy. Ancestry DNA may be the best for genealogy, but be aware that their business model is to try to get you to sign up for Ancestry.com at $20/month (more if you want access to international databases). If you are interested in genealogy research that’s not necessarily a bad thing.</p>
<p>Are they worth it? I was interested in the results and did locate some 4th cousins I wasn’t aware of before, so I’d say yes. </p>
