Wow. OP here. This thread had some legs.

I guess the term “tacky” in my original post struck many as class conscious? Too funny. The tackiest people I’ve ever known have generally been the wealthiest. But then, I guess, class transcends wealth? I wouldn’t know . . .

It had been suggested to me by neighbors that the the above ground pool is lower budget and just not as “nice” as the in ground. Whatever. These neighbors put in an in ground pool last summer. The excavating and installation barely got done before the leaves were falling. And it’s a sad little pool.

I went and I got a quote and I can get an 18 x 40 pool that will sit flush with our existing deck that is 7 feet deep on one end with a heater and a cleaner and a solar cover for not much more that what it would cost to take us all to an island for a week. I am really, really excited. Love, love, love to swim. So does my DH. He was a college butterfly swimmer. I really love to watch him swim.

The kitchen remodel can wait. This is way more fun.
