Do Admission officers know what you look like?

Not a single school asked me to upload a photo or anything, but I did have to submit a valid photo for the SATs.
So do admission officers have access to my photos through the College board? Do they have any idea what I look like?
And if I’m submitting a music portfolio, do I need to show my face on the video?

Why would you want to hide what you look like? If you attend the school, someone is going to see you.

@DadTwoGirls Not that I want to hide what I look like, but I’m genuinely curious. Just that my SAT photo looks like a little kid if that’s their only source of information :stuck_out_tongue:

Kind of figured the SAT wants a picture to make sure the correct person is taking the tests and that you didn’t send Einstein in your place. I feel like it would be messed up if admissions staff were looking at pics while qualifying students.

Right- as @RuthieRoush said, the SAT photo is for the admissions ticket, to verify you are the one taking the test. I doubt colleges will have any access to it (they only know your SAT scores if the CB sends them, after all).

Hmmm, maybe they can see you when you access the Common App much like Amazon’s Alexa is rumored to be able to listen in even if it is turned off… @-)

@Chembiodad My D has a post-it note covering the camera lens on her laptop so no one can unwittingly spy on her. You never know!

Admissions decisions are made on the basis of a student’s application against performance requirements. They may see a blurry photo of some sort but probably not of the level of a studio portrait. Never have heard that someone said to a new admit that she had recognized the student from a picture attached to a student’s application.

The only exception, as far as I know, is Zeemee, as well as schools like Vassar (one of the optional supplementals is sending a picture of yourself to “personalize” your application).

Ha, you have me skeptical, equality4 … you’re just curious? Your post sounds like the beginning of a dystopian novel. Exactly where do they send us kids with brown eyes?

And yeah, heck, Vassar has an optional Your Space where you can upload a portfolio of self portraits in macro, if that’s your thing. Or a video, of course. At least one kid got in from ED1. I’m still working up the guts to hit the upload button.

You can be like Daft Punk, always wearing a mask so no one can see your face even after you joining the college.

our HS transcript includes the kid’s photo

Our high school transcript also includes the students’ pictures. For seniors, these photos are used for student IDs, not the yearbook, because they take portraits. A few of the kids, including my son, wore” funny” glasses (he apparently thinks his grandmother’s red reading glasses are funny) or made funny faces in the photos they thought would be on their ID cards and were told by the counselor that these goofy photos would be on the transcripts that were sent to colleges unless the pictures were retaken.
